When an ebook is published for distribution, retailers such as Apple, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and others require Lulu to review that ebook for ineligible content. This can include:

  • Copyright infringing content
  • Spam
  • Public domain content
  • Non-English content
  • Inaccurate metadata
  • Properly formatted table of contents
  • Proper file formatting

On February 15, 2021, to facilitate this review process, Lulu began charging a one-time, non-refundable fee of $4.99 (€4.99/£4.99) for the first time an ebook is reviewed for distribution. The distribution review process is necessary to ensure that your book meets the requirements of our distribution partners. Please note that the final decision to accept, list, or reject a title rests solely with the retailer. While we review titles for compliance with partner requirements before submission, we do not control retailers' approval or listing decisions.

This fee does not apply to revisions of a published print book or ebook. For all newly published print books or ebooks, the distribution fee must be paid prior to completing the Global Distribution submission process.
