When an ebook is published for distribution, retailers such as Apple, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and others require Lulu to review that ebook for ineligible content. This can include:

  • Copyright infringing content
  • Spam
  • Public domain content
  • Non-English content
  • Inaccurate metadata
  • Properly formatted table of contents
  • Proper file formatting


On February 15, 2021, to facilitate this review process, Lulu began charging a one-time fee of $4.99 for the first time an ebook is reviewed for distribution. This fee does not apply to subsequent reviews for any revision you may publish. Nor does this fee impact the 90% revenue share you'll receive from sales of your ebook.
