How Do I Determine Which Side of My Cover My Coil Is Placed?

Our automation places the coil on the left edge of your book. If you prefer your coil to be placed on an alternate side of your project, you will need to work with the system by turning your document 90 degrees counter-clockwise so that the side you wish to bind is at the left. Be sure your interior file is uploaded at 90 degrees counter-clockwise as well. The same is true for both portrait and landscape-oriented books. Always remember your book will be bound on the left side of the uploaded document.

Landscape Orientation

A coil-bound landscape book has the coil on the short side at left like this:



To place your coil binding at the top of your landscape project, rotate your cover and interior files 90 degrees counterclockwise. This gives the desired result of the coil at the top of the finished landscape book:


Portrait Orientation

A coil-bound portrait book has the coil on the left side like this:

Coil Size

Your coil size is determined by the format and number of pages in your project. It can vary slightly based on the printer who is fulfilling your order.

Coil Margins and Gutters

For coil-bound books, the coils bite about 0.375 in (9 mm) on the spine edge, so we suggest an interior margin of .5 in to ensure your content does not print too close to your coil.

Can I Choose the Color of My Coil Binding?

No, the color of your coils is set by the printer and you cannot choose a custom color.
